The International Conference
“Asian Theatres and the Western Worlds: Culture, Alterity and Representation” held on 12
th and 13
th January 2008 at Thrissur, Kerala, India was designed to explore critical approaches, methodologies, research strategies in examining the interrelation between Asian theatres and the Western academia and spectatorship. It also focused on the complex realm of cultural exchanges between Asia and the West in the last few centuries with reference to theatres. Renowned Buto performer Minn Tanaka inaugurated the conference, Playwright Mahesh Dattani and Claudia Oresntien delivered keynotes.
